What is the reality of the mysterious 'black hole' on Google Maps?
Search engines on the Internet have failed to figure out what the 'black hole' that appears on Google Maps is. The black hole was discovered by a user of the American community network Reddit.
The black hole has three sides and was shared on Reddit by CocoBlocks last week.
He wrote: 'What a surprise. It doesn't look like an island at all. "
Reddit users are debating whether the black hole is really an island, a way to another world, or a secret military base.
Many people searched Google Maps to see the black hole, which eventually turned out to be a coral island owned by the Pacific republic of Kerry Boss, also known as Vostok Island.
According to the science news website LiveScience, Google often blurs military and other "secret" locations to prevent information about their location from being disclosed. This process could lead to speculation about a black hole.
Reddit users wrote: 'My first thought was that it was censored. It doesn't matter that something naturally occurring on a small coral island in such shallow water is black.
Many Reddit users have realized that the black hole is actually Vostok Island. Allegedly an uninhabited coral island located 2280 kilometers (3902 miles) east of Sydney, Australia.
Another Reddit user, whose speculation turned out to be almost correct, wrote: "Assuming this is not a black hole, it may be lava erupting from underground, which makes it look black." There is a strong possibility that this lava is a rock formed after hardening.
According to National Geographic, Vostok is one of the five coral islands in the southern 'Line Islands' in the Pacific Ocean and is rarely seen.
This chain of islands is also incredibly diverse, whether they are near the coast or far.
