600$ million aid target for Afghanistan completed, says UN

The United Nations has announced that it has met the 600 million target of its recent appeal for assistance to Afghanistan.

A spokesman for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said the agency's latest appeal for Afghanistan was now 100% funded.

The United Nations called for immediate assistance to Afghanistan from international donors at a meeting in Geneva in September.

The main donors to this aid are the United States, European countries and Japan. The funds are to help 11 million people in Afghanistan.

According to the World Health Organization, Afghanistan is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe, with more than half of its population at risk of food shortages during the winter.
