In Congo, rebels set fire to a village, killing 12 people, including six children

Kinshasa: Armed rebels attacked a village in the African country of Congo, killing 12 people, including six children and two women.

According to the International News Agency, armed rebels attacked a village in the Congolese province of Itori where the displaced people had taken temporary refuge.

Armed insurgents set fire to houses and indiscriminately fired on fleeing Meccans, while looting residents' property.

Twelve people were killed and several others were injured in the insurgent attack, including six children and two women. More than 10 injured have been shifted to hospitals.

The separatist party Kodiko has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group has been involved in armed attacks across the country, but Aitori is its main target.

It should be noted that in 2017, the rebel group had carried out an armed attack in Aitori, killing hundreds of people and forcing the residents to leave the province.
