Writings on Einstein's theory of relativity auctioned for 13 million euros
German-American scientist Albert Einstein's handwritten "rare" writings on the general theory of relativity sold for a record 11.6 million ( 13 million) at an auction in Paris.
Earlier, estimates of the pen value were about a quarter of the final auction price. 11.6 million euros is the highest ever value of any writing of this intelligent scientist.
These writings contain an early work on Einstein's famous general theory of relativity.
The general theory of redundancy was published in 1915.
Christie's, a British auction house hosted by the French auction house Agout, called Einstein's writings "the most valuable works to come up for auction."
Prior to the auction, the auction house had estimated that it would sell for between 2 million and 3 million euros.
Earlier in 2018, Einstein's work, called the "God Letter", sold for 2.8 million, while in 2017, a letter about the secret to happiness was auctioned off for a record 1.56 million. ۔
Bids for his handwriting began at 1.5 million euros on Tuesday, soon surpassing auctioneers' estimates.
A few minutes later, two bidders remained on the field, competing on the telephone, adding two to two million euros to the bid.
No immediate information was found about the identity or citizenship of the successful bidder. The auction process was watched by almost one collector and spectators, but all bids were made by telephone.
The 54-page auctioned documents were written by Einstein and his close friend Michelle Besso between 1913 and 1914 in Zurich, Switzerland.
Auction House Christie's thanked Besso for saving the writing for the future.
According to Christie, this is almost a miracle because Einstein did not preserve his writings because he considered them to be mere documents.
